El knis de Jobar tiene unos dos mil años de antigüedad. Fue construido por el profeta Elisha (quien también se refugiaba aquí, y aquí ungió como rey a Hazael), y refaccionado por el Taná Elazar ben Araj. Además, si miran Berajot 50a, verán que Rafram bar Papá hizo Tefilá en este lugar. También en este Knis se guardaba el Al-Taj, un Tanaj ilustrado del siglo XIII (similar al Kéter de Aram Sobá).
En este Knis quemaron un Séfer Torá durante los pogroms de 1840, siendo instaurado por los judíos de Damasco el 8 de Elul (hoy, 1/9/06) un día de fiesta por salvarse de estas persecuciones, llamado Nes Tuma.
Knis of Jobar, in the outskirts of Damascus, Syria. The Knis of Jobar has about two thousand years of antiquity. Was built by the prophet Elisha (who also took refuge here, and here anointed for king to Hazael), and restored by the Tanah Elazar ben Arakh. In addition, if you look in Berachot 50a, you will see that Raphram bar Papa prayed in this place. Also in this Knis the Al-Taj was kept, an illustrated Tanach of 13th century (similar to the Keter of Aram Soba). In this Knis a Sefer Torah was set afire during the pogroms of 1840, being fixed by the Jews of Damascus the 8th of Elul (today, 9/1/06) a holiday remembering their saving from these persecutions, called Nes Tumah.
