Esta sinagoga fue construida en 1352, siendo la segunda más antigua de Europa aún en funcionamiento. Pertenece a la comunidad sefaradí, y en ella se guardan Sifré Torá traídos de España, que fueron salvados de la Inquisición.
Los sefaradim de Croacia hablan en Ladino, aunque su dialecto difiere del de los sefaradim de otros países del Levante y Mediterráneo.

Built in 1352, is the second oldest synagogue in Europe still working. Pertains to the Sephardi community, and lodges Sifre Torah brought from Spain, which were saved from the Inquisition. The Sephardi Jews of Croatia are Ladino-speaking, but their dialect differs from that of the Mediterranean Sephardi Jews.
