En el siglo XX se trasladaron a Indonesia judíos de Holanda, Baghdad y el Yemen. También se refugiaron allí muchos judíos alemanes durante la Segunda Guerra. La mayoría abandonó el país tras su independencia.
La comunidad de Surabaya está compuesta por algunas familias provenientes de Irak.
